/ Do I try to love? / In my dream...
...
Dreams can make me mad. / I can't leave my dream, I can't stop myself / Don't know what I am, what lies are truth? / What truths are lies?

---

Language game (part I)

Well, the idea of localizing foreign languages wouldn't be a surprise to the Cantonese speaking population, especially for those who grew up in HK.

Some examples:
But why is "cheese cake" called "芝士蛋糕" and not something else?
Why is "fillo pastry" called "酥" and not "菲酪"?
But, "coffee" is "咖啡," "brown" is more commonly known as "咖啡色" or "啡色" rather than "褐色" or "棕色" in colloquial language.
How does the local culture decide what to name foreign imports? April 1st was once New Year's Day in France. In 1582, Pope Gregory declared the adoption of his Gregorian calendar to replace the Julian calendar and New Year's Day was officially changed to January 1st. It took awhile for everyone in France to hear the news of this major change and others obstinately refused to accept the new calendar, so a lot of people continued to celebrate New Year's Day on the first of April – earning them the name April fools. The April fools were subjected to ridicule and practical jokes and the tradition was born. The butts of these pranks were first called poisson d'avril or April fish because a young naive fish is easily caught. A common practice was to hook a paper fish on the back of someone as a joke. This evolved over time and a custom of prank-playing continues on the first day of April

- taken from dictionary.com

The flood of work has come.

the truth of S/M

"Everything has to be wicked, barbarous, inhuman - as your God is - and these are the vices which must be adopted if one wishes to plaese him; not that there is much hope of succeeding, since that evil which always does harm, the evil which is God's essence, could not possibly be susceptible either to love or gratitude. If this God who is the center of evil and ferocity torments man, and his Nature and other men torment him throughout his existence, what reason is there to doubt that he accts in the same way, and perhaps even involuntarily, on this wisp which survives after man and which ... is nothing other than evil?....once I become aware of this, evil becomes good for me as it is for the being who has created me in his dealings with me, and I am pleased by the evil I do others as God is pleased by the evil he has done to me. ... pleasure through comparison, a pleasure which can only be born from the sight of the unhappy, .. wherever men are equal and where differences do not exist, happiness will never exist; it's quite like the situation of the man who doesn't appreciate the price of good health until he has been ill." (Sade quoted in Klossowski)

Simone de Beauvior & Pierre Klossowski
Maurice Blanchot
Roland Barthes

===

TW and PRC Controversy ::

- extracted from Swiss info (3/27/2005)
"I am here to protest against a barbaric China which looks down upon the Taiwanese people," said 70-year-old businessman Fan Wen-yi, adding he was not affiliated to any political party and had never participated in a protest before. The bias of coverage since 3/14 stirred international conflicts, and further escalated negative presumptions of "THE communist PRC" amongst individuals. Use of words in titles ("Back China"), quotes from protesters ("barbaric China"), reveal the power of media that proliferates biased connotations of the Law among general public.

For those who care about the this matter, here is a site that has a vast pool of English coverage.
